Guiding, Inspiring, and Nurturing Minds – Our Dedicated Team of Educators.

Jessica van Schalkwyk
FOUNDER & OWNER
Hello, I'm Jess, and I'm absolutely delighted to meet you.
With a B-ED degree and over a decade of teaching experience under my belt, I'm a qualified educator who's here to share my passion for learning. In 2016, I embarked on a mission to make Mathematics an enjoyable journey for students, which led to the inception of van Schalkwyk Maths. Witnessing the growth of a child's self-confidence, not just in Mathematics but also in every aspect of their development, brings me immense joy. Driven by my passion for helping learners, I pursued further studies and am now a qualified remedial specialist.
Recognising the rising demand for high-quality extra lessons in 2020, I took a step further and expanded the venture to create Van Schalkwyk Educational Centre. Our commitment and enthusiasm for what we do are boundless, and we're thrilled at the opportunity to make a difference.

I am passionate about education and lately finding myself being pulled towards remedial eduction. My favourite subjects are English, Geography, Natural Science and Life Orientation. I love these subjects as I am curious about the world around me, love to travel and forever learning about our ever changing state and our place in the universe. I enjoy connecting on the child’s level especially when it comes to handling life circumstances and challenges.
Fun fact: I love ALL animals.

Afrikaans- It's the youngest official language in the world. Afrikaans is one of the official languages of South Africa, so teaching it enables students to engage with a significant part of the country's culture and heritage.
Fun fact: I love the smell of paper in books.

Subject: maths.
I love maths and the beauty and creativity of music.
I love teaching maths and seeing how unknown and seemingly difficult concepts all fall into place and help shape logical thought process in young minds .
My other passion is music ,as Plato remarked: "Music is a moral law, it gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind and flight to the imagination and charm and gaiety to life and to everything...it enters the soul imparting grace ....."

I’m all about making a meaningful impact and helping students reach their full potential through fun experiences, connections, and goal strategies.
When I'm not dreaming up new ways to inspire, you can find me watching The Office or experimenting in the kitchen with new recipes. Oh, and I love reading whenever I get a moment to unwind! Let’s make learning as fun and fulfilling as possible!

The subjects that I am most passionate about facilitating are English and Business studies. There is nothing more rewarding than observing a child fall in love with literature, poetry, and reading. Combine this with a student's grasp of how the world works and you become a witness to their wonderful learning journey. Interesting fact: I can't roll my tongue.

As a dedicated teacher, my mission is to inspire and empower each student to reach their full potential. I believe that education is not just about imparting knowledge, but about fostering curiosity, building confidence, and instilling a love for learning. Every lesson is an opportunity for growth, and I strive to create a supportive environment where students feel valued, challenged, and encouraged to dream big. Together, we can overcome obstacles and unlock the limitless possibilities that lie ahead.

A little bit about me:
I am a qualified primary school teacher with an honour’s degree. I have tutored remedial learners as well as advanced students. I am passionate about maths and at my happiest when a learner has a breakthrough moment, suddenly realising that they understand and are able to solve problems that they couldn't do before. I provide a patient, nurturing, encouraging and trusting approach in the classroom to elevate academic performance, confidence, motivation and independent reasoning skills. My goal is to inspire learners to enjoy maths and to make them feel comfortable asking questions and realise that maths IS understandable.

A little bit about me:
I am a hard worker with no off switch. I am deeply passionate about the STEM field. I happened to stumble across, what is now a new found, unexpected passion for teaching whilst studying. It is something I see myself now doing for the rest of my life. As there is no more rewarding thing than to teach.
